Who bonding suits, and who it does not
Bonding is at its best on small, well-defined problems: a chipped incisal edge, a small gap between the front teeth, edges worn uneven, a tooth slightly shorter or narrower than its neighbour, a single dark spot. It is a poor answer to heavy discolouration across many teeth, to large gaps, to crowding or a deep bite that ought to be treated orthodontically, and to heavily broken or root-treated teeth that need the strength of a crown. Heavy grinders can have bonding, but only with a night guard and a frank conversation about repairs. If your photographs show one of the poor-fit cases, we say so and suggest the alternative rather than bonding it anyway.
What actually happens in the chair
The shade is chosen against your own teeth in good light before anything starts, because resin cannot be re-coloured afterwards the way a laboratory can adjust porcelain. The enamel is cleaned and lightly conditioned; in most bonding cases nothing is drilled and there is no injection. The composite is placed in thin layers, each shaped by hand and hardened with a light, so the final edge is built up rather than carved down. The last steps decide how natural it looks: contouring to match the neighbouring teeth, checking the bite so the new edge is not the first thing your lower teeth hit, and a high polish that resists stain. One dentist does all of it, start to finish.

Because bonding keeps your enamel, it keeps your options open. Many patients who think they want veneers are well served by bonding on two or four teeth, and can still move to minimal-prep E.max veneers years later if they want a bigger change; the reverse is not true once teeth have been prepared. Your bonding trip, day by day (2–3 days)
Bonding is a one-visit treatment, which makes it the shortest trip we plan: most patients fly in, are treated on the second day and leave on the third. The pace is typical rather than promised; your dentist decides.
- Before you fly Photo consultation and the written plan
You send photographs; a dentist replies with which teeth suit bonding, which would be better served by a veneer, and whether whitening should come first. The plan lists each tooth with its price.
- Day 1 Arrival, examination and shade
Transfer from Antalya Airport, about 15 minutes to Konyaaltı. Examination and any X-rays, then the shade is chosen against your own teeth. Where it helps, a quick mock-up in the mouth shows the intended shape before anything is bonded.
- Day 2 The bonding visit
Usually little or no drilling and, in many cases, no anaesthetic. The surface is prepared, the resin is built in thin layers, shaped by hand, hardened with a light and polished, and the bite is checked. Several teeth are usually done in one sitting.
- Day 3 Review, final polish and home
A short review the morning after: bite and edges re-checked and given a final polish, photographs taken for your file, and you leave with the written aftercare protocol and the records pack before your flight.
If whitening is part of the plan, your dentist decides the interval before bonding; that can mean a slightly longer stay or a second short visit.

We do not dress bonding up with a long guarantee it cannot honestly carry. The 5-year guarantees are issued in writing before treatment starts; travel for a guarantee visit is the patient's.
If bonding chips after you fly home
A chipped edge is the most likely thing to happen to bonding and the easiest to put right, and the route is agreed before you travel. Step one: message our coordinator on WhatsApp with clear photographs of the tooth. Step two: your treating dentist reviews within the week and replies in writing; often the answer is a polish or a small repair that any dentist near you can do, and we say so.
Step three: because composite carries no long guarantee claim, a repair is quoted per case rather than promised free; where your plan also included a veneer or crown under the 5-year guarantee, a material failure of that unit is re-made at Tantalya at no treatment charge, with travel yours. Step four: if you need urgent local care, your full records are released the same day so a UK dentist can act; third-party fees are not covered unless agreed with us in writing beforehand.
Aftercare for bonding
Resin behaves differently from porcelain: it is softer, it picks up stain more readily, and it can be repolished. This programme is what makes the typical 4–8 years realistic rather than optimistic.
- A written aftercare protocol is handed over at departure: what to avoid in the first days, how to clean bonded edges, and how to wear a night guard if one has been prescribed.
- Annual digital check-up: once a year you send photographs, a short video or an intra-oral scan from a local dentist; your treating dentist reviews it and replies in writing, flagging early wear or staining while it is still a polish rather than a repair.
- The records pack goes home with you: the treatment plan PDF listing each tooth, the itemised invoice, clinical photographs and any X-rays, so a dentist at home can see what was done and where.
- The clinic stays reachable on WhatsApp during and after the trip, and photographs are reviewed remotely at any point.
- Limit staining: coffee, tea, red wine and smoking mark resin faster than enamel or porcelain. Rinsing with water afterwards helps, and a professional polish at your home dentist refreshes the surface.
- Do not use bonded front teeth as tools: nails, pen lids, ice and bottle tops are the classic ways a bonded edge chips.
- Wear a night guard if you grind. Thin composite edges are the first thing grinding takes off, and a guard costs less than repeated repairs.
How often bonding fails, and how that compares
Bonding has a lower survival figure than porcelain in the literature, and it should be read honestly: most of what goes wrong with composite is a chip or a stain that is repaired, whereas a failed porcelain unit is re-made. Individual results depend on bite, grinding and habits.
